Providing of Cataloguing-In-Publication (CIP) data commenced in 1996 with the objective of improving cataloguing activities in libraries and creating an uniformity in the publishing field. The advantages of Cataloguing-In-Publication (CIP) are to facilitate librarians in cataloguing and classification of books acquired to libraries. CIP is issued before a publication is printed. The CIP entry includes information such as author, title, publisher, place of publication, year, ISBN, ISMN, ISSN, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) number and subject headings.
