NATIONAL LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION SERVICES BOARD
All Sri Lankans, Institutions in Sri Lanka and foreigners who visit Sri Lanka are entitled to get the membership of the national library. Readers can get the membership under different categories such as three months membership, annual membership, lifetime membership, institutional membership and free membership for senior citizens. Registration of readers and issue of applications is carried out by main counter located in the reader services division in the ground floor.
The month of October has been declared as the National Reading Month by the National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB). In relation to this National Library of Sri Lanka has decided to offer one-year free membership to the current Sri Lankan undergraduate students and school children during the National Reading Month from 3rd - 31st October 2022.
You can make use of the offer only by visiting the National Library during the opening hours during October 2022 along with your valid student identity card. Application forms can be obtained from the main counter of the Reader Services Division.
Similar conditions apply to those who wish to renew free one-year National Library membership.

According to the users wish, they can select a suitable membership category. At the end of each period, the membership has to be renewed by paying the relevant fee. The identity should be confirmed to obtain the membership and the national identity card, passport or a certified photograph should be submitted for this purpose.
National Library of Sri Lanka introduces a new electronic membership card for national library members. The objective of introducing this new electronic card is to provide more efficient service to national library members. Any Sri Lankan can get new electronic card by visiting the ground floor of the reader services division.
