National library collects different types of library material such as books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, audio visual and electronic media etc. These materials are collected through different methods such as purchasing, donations, local and international book exchange and legal deposit law.
In building up the collection, priority is given to acquire publications on Sri Lanka, publications published by Sri Lankans. Publications are acquired for the national library collection through different methods such as purchasing, donations and legal deposits. National Library readers can make their suggestions for the acquisition of library material they need to refer.
